Animated Tutorials
 


The content on this page is aimed at the new Linux user. These are Flash animated tutorials. The files are large and if the site is busy they may take time to load, so please be patient. I apologize that the animations couldn't be a little more dial up user friendy. If you are a dial up user, just be patient, "eventually" the animations will load.

Note; I am using SuSE Linux and these tutorials are done on that distribution, file names and paths to system files may be different in other distributions. If not using SuSE, check the locations of your system directories.


This is aimed at enabling simple file sharing on a local area network. It involves enabling the needed services in Yast, and setting up the shared directories with a web browser utility called swat.

Why buy a second printer when you can share the one you have. This tutorial will show you how to connect to and set up a printer that is shared from your Windows or Linux computer.

Installing Windows games in Linux requires special software, it can be done in an application called wine (requires a lot of work) Or for $15 dollars American, you can sign up at Transgamings web site and download the easiest and best solution to installing Windows games in Linux. The application is called cedega, and it is about as easy as things get. This a two part animation the first is the installation of cedega and how to install a game. See the second one below for the completion of the install.

This is the second part of the installation of Windows games in Linux. This isn't critical to see, but just picks up from where the first one left off, if you would like to see the game finish installing, and start to play watch this animation.

In this tutorial I will be installing the Doom 3 Demo for Linux. The installation for .bin, and .sh files is so similar there isn't a need to expllain them seperately.

I often do repetitive tasks that require me to run the same command over and over again. Rather then try and remember the command or typing a long command every time I need to run it, I create one word bash scripts to do it for me.

On the Tips and Tricks page the files and applications and instructions needed to capture desktop activety, and save to flash files are available. This tutorial is aimed at embedding those files into a web page/HTML.

A common question is how to properly install firefox system wide, so all system users have access to it.  This is aimed at simplifying that task for the newcomer to Linux.

This tutorial makes the assumption that Mozilla is already installed on your system, and that plugins are installed in Mozilla. If Mozilla is not installed, it can be installed in Yast.
